Thank you for visiting our community page. Our parish priest is Father Wayne Coughlin and we are based in the Goldington and Brickhill areas of Bedford. A warm and friendly welcome awaits anyone visiting our parish communities.
Both churches have a group of parishioners who undertake the role of “Welcomers”; greeting parishioners and newcomers to Mass and assisting by answering any questions and helping new parishioners to settle in and feel part of the parish community. At Holy Cross there is a new parishioner ‘Welcome Pack’ containing useful information about the church and offering a “buddy” and a visit from the Parish Priest.
An Alpha course, for both our parishes, for those interested in learning (or furthering their knowledge) about the Christian Faith will be introduced shortly.
There are a number of ways in which we serve the community:
Holy Cross hosts the Foodbank every Wednesday afternoon (1.00 – 3.00) and many parishioners from both our parishes assist with running the Foodbank. (For further information about the Bedford Foodbank contact 01234 268569 or firstname.lastname@example.org)
St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)
Both Holy Cross and Ss Philip & James churches have an SVP group. These are friendly groups who work to befriend and visit the elderly, the housebound and the sick in their own homes, residential homes or in hospital. They give practical help, including lifts to Mass, to appointments and shopping.
Goldington Churches Together
Since 2000 Holy Cross Church, Priory Methodist Church and St. Mary’s (C of E) Church have had a formal commitment to grow closer together through joint worship and study and through serving the local community. Initiatives undertaken include carol singing to in aid of a local charity and arranging for Easter and Christmas cards to be sent to residents at Yarl’s Wood. GCT has also developed links with other churches, including the Word of Faith Centre and the University of Bedfordshire Chaplaincy.
For any further information on the groups mentioned above or to learn more about the Catholic Faith, please contact Margaret Wells – 07931338344 or George Tasker – 07836538890.
